FEEL your Feelings… (verb.)

The body is like a giant fact file that contains all of the information about you, your experiences and what your life has been like up until this point. Your Genes, your DNA, your emotional responses, your injuries, your souls’ wounds, past lives, ancestral lineage, generational trauma etc. are all contributing factors to your body’s ‘code’.

In my work, I have uncovered so much about our Body Code and how our suppressed emotions manifest into physical ailments, and depending on their locations, why.

I have recently encountered many highly intelligent people bypassing their healing by understanding the ‘whys’ of the journey.

We are in the age of Therapy, a practice where we can logically break down and analyse our deepest, darkest experiences. So we have a fairly good grasp on why we behave the way we do, and what our coping mechanisms are as a result of responding to trauma.

Learning how therapy works can actually create opportunities for us to become more avoidant. We know the language that enables us to plicate those around use, but deep down, we still have dormant emotions that haven’t been dealt with.

Feelings, are these big things that we spend our whole lives trying to freeze, ignore and suppress. They can only be released through action… Not to be mistaken with the concept of ‘excising your problems away’, which is another tactic I have come across on this journey!

The word Feeling, is a verb, a doing word. In order to release trapped emotions, we must connect with them, honour them and FEEL them. Otherwise we are going to continue on this cycle of ignoring what our bodies are screaming at us.

Our bodies always know what we need, we just need to pluck up the courage to listen to them, and act accordingly.

“Trauma victims cannot recover until they become familiar with and befriend the sensations in their bodies. Being frightened means that you live in a body that is always on guard. Angry people live in angry bodies. The bodies of child-abuse victims are tense and defensive until they find a way to relax and feel safe. In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past.” - Bessel van der Kolk

During my work, I have discovered that particular body parts and their ailments are directly linked to emotional issues we are suppressing. The energy bubbles over and manifests into physical problems if they are not addressed.

For example:

  • Ankles connect to feeling stuck, and being in a freeze response. In past lives you may have been a slave, so in this life, what is making you feel trapped?

  • Knees are a fear of moving forward in life.

  • Throat, teeth and jaw problems connect with our inability to speak up for ourselves, say what we want, what we mean and our authenticity. It can present as passive aggression, avoidance, being non confrontational or a people pleaser.

There are many different ways that you can release trapped and stored emotion, and it is always good to include therapy on your healing journey. Make sure though, that you hold yourself accountable. If you can tell that it’s not helping you, then stop wasting your time. Try to find other avenues that will cause emotional release and allow you to connect with your feelings.

Try things like TRE, Somatic exercises, Reiki, Breathe-work, Meditation that focuses on your body and emotions, movement medicine like expressive dance, art therapy.

Remember, the slower the activity, the better! If you try to throw yourself into something like running or yoga, it becomes an avoidance dance where you focus on posture or ability instead of your breathe and how you feel.

During Celestial Reiki sessions, we have a period of holistic counselling, where the guides take me to precise moments of time in your life where trauma occurred. We talk about it, and address your feelings.

During the energy healing work, I am able to go in and unblock your energy centres which help your body to start moving its emotions again.

Quite often we do lots of crying, laughing and acknowledging of the bodies messages. Tummy gurgles are always a good thing because it’s a sign the your body is working with the energy and moving psychical matter!

Remember, you are human. These feelings are human. Be kind to yourself. Always address your inner child when doing healing because ultimately, they hold the answers to our most vulnerable wounds.

Most importantly though, FEEL your Feelings…
